“What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?” PSALM 8:4 NIV
So, what are your New Years resolutions?
It’s a question I’m starting to hear more and more as we enter the new year. We each try to set goals and take direction for the next year. We swear to improve ourselves, run the extra mile, pray more, eat less, work harder…the list goes on.
And in the end, what does it add up to?
As I look past on the last year, I’ve realized that the biggest lessons I have learned have been about surrender. About letting God enter into my mess and chaos and getting me through boot camp.
And slowly, I begin to see. I am so inadequate. So small. So easily drained. I may try to carry everything myself, but I do not even come close.
And yet, there is hope.
Hope in that the God who so delicately clothed each flower, who sculpted the land out of the sea, who formed me inside my mother, he stays beside me. He lives inside me.
He takes the old and makes it new; he sees my weakness and makes it strong.
But only if I let him.
So I have a choice.
This New Year, am I going to try and set my direction for this year? Or am I going to ask God, “What is your plan for this year? How can I step into that?”

SELF REFLECT:
1. What goals do you have this year? Why are they important to you?
2. What have you worried about in the past year? How have you seen God answer?
3. What are you worrying about now? How can you work towards surrendering these to God?
4. Have you given God control over this coming year? How can you work on following his plan?
