Advent Through Poetry Day THIRTEEN (Unthinkable!)

We always think of King Herod as an evil maniac, which he was, but have you ever though of how he must have felt?

{Warning: I was watching Fiddler On the Roof this week.}

A new king?

Outrageous! Unheard of!

In Bethlehem?

Absurd!

Unthinkable!

What did they say?

To WORSHIP-

To worship- this babe?

A different king?

Blasphemous things!

They think they can

unveil this birth?

Unthinkable!

Unpolitical!

How do I make them

STOP?

Subtly!

Immediately!

Unleashed yet unexpectedly!

Aha! I shall tell them

To tell me

Where he lays

and then I’ll go

and all the world

will know

that I am the king

who reigns.

…..

Unacceptable!

Unthinkable!

The wise men I tricked

Detected my trick

and tricked me by

taking a different trip!

Those tricky treacherous tricksters!

Untruthful!

Untrickable!

Unthinkable!

How can I regain my reign-

a king?

A babe?

Messiah?

In Bethlehem?!

Unthinkable!

Dangerous!

I must keep my throne-

it is mine! And mine alone!

Undefeatable !

Unchallenged!

I’ll tell my men

to kill

every child

every male.

The people will be wild

but-

A child?

A new king?

Absurd!

Unthinkable!
